New York Expands Telemarketing Definition to Include Text Messages

On July 13, 2021, Governor Cuomo signed legislation (Senate Bill No. 3941) that expands New York's telemarketing communication definition to include text messages for its no-call registry. Previously, New York had protection against unwanted robocalls, but texting was exempted. The text messaging legislation closes that loophole. The new restriction is effective on August 12, 2021.
